Since the revival of the Bayfront East Side Taskforce in 2000,
Erie's East Bayfront neighborhood has seen slow and steady improvements
through the efforts of the East Bayfront Neighborhood Watch, a
grassroots, all volunteer organization of residents committed
to curtailing urban blight and creating a more vibrant, dynamic
neighborhood attractive to new homeowners.

|
| Although
their efforts are noteworthy, the overall movement to revitalize the
East Bayfront neighborhood has been hampered by the volunteer status
of the Watch group. In mid-1998, the group's community partners led
by Erie Insurance and Hamot Medical Center reactivated the Bayfront
East Side Taskforce (BEST), once active in the mid 1970s, to serve
as a catalyst for the Watch group's efforts. |

|
After an 18-month reorganization,
BEST hired a full time executive director in October 2000. BEST,
a nonprofit 501c3 organization, works to accelerate the pace
of progress in Erie's oldest neighborhood with a professional
director complementing the volunteer residents active in the
East Bayfront Watch. |
